Recovering From Hair Adhesive Remover Damage

By Brenda Russell

Damage to the hair and scalp can be as a result of very many external factors. One of the common factors is the use of hair adhesive remover. It can traumatize the hair and lead to hair breakage and loss. Most women find themselves facing this problem at one point of their lives after using it to remove hair extensions.

Once you face yourself with this problem, you will need to embark on a special treatment that will help get rid of it. The special treatment requires that you change your methods and how you deal with your hair and scalp. The treatment period can last several months and this gives your hair and scalp enough time to recover.

During this time, the hair and scalp should be given consistent care for the problems to disappear. It may mean that you avoid the adhesives and any chemicals that you have been using until the scalp and hair are stable. Thereafter you can reintroduce them. It is crucial for you to be willing to maintain a stable environment for your hair for the recovery process to be successful.

The recovery process is however based on the extent of the damage to your hair and scalp. But basically, it can range from four weeks to several months. What you should remember during this time is that you must offer your hair the same treatment throughout this period. Think of your hair as a patient in a hospital who is in a critical state. The patient needs constant care with the treatments and medicines being delivered consistently for the patient to recover quickly.

When dealing with chronic hair loss and breakage, the stabilization program can last up to twelve weeks before moving to the maintenance part of the treatment. During this period the main focus is to stop the hair from further loss and breakage. The stabilizing program can include shampooing your hair regularly while maintaining a balanced pH on the hair and scalp. Deep conditioning using a protein moisturizing and stabilizing conditioner will help naturally repair, rejuvenate and rebuild the hair.

As you apply the deep conditioner, focus on the hair weak areas. It is recommended that you use your hands to apply the conditioner instead of a comb. You should rub it in from the top of your head gently. Always handle your hair in a gentle manner and not roughly.

Once you are done applying the conditioner, sit in a dryer for a few minutes for the conditioner to work. Rinse if off afterward using warm water. Dry your hair with a towel by blotting the hair and squeezing the strands.

Hair vitamins are ideal for your hair as they fill in areas of the hair shaft that are thin. This increases the hair elasticity and stabilizes the breakage. You should apply the hair vitamins after drying the hair and focus on all the weak areas.

During the recovery period, it is important that you avoid all heating tools. Blow dry, curling, pressing or using a flat iron should be avoided completely. Use roller setting instead and always apply a sculpting lotion before your set on the rollers.
